I am a junior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison majoring in International Studies and Political Science. I have chosen to focus on the Middle East as my region of interest and Hebrew as my language of study, so this semester of Spring 2012 I will be living in Haifa, Israel, to further my education on International Relations theory and policy. I intend on further specifying in the study of terrorism and insurgency, and the best ways to counter it. Obviously, the Middle East is a region of the world that has seen more of this than any other. Going there, learning about IR from scholars, professors, and doctors alike will be an experience that I cannot at this time fathom. I know studying abroad is mostly for the traveling one gets to do and the cultural experiences one gets to endure, but to have the opportunity to study IR at the University of Haifa is not something that I intend on taking for granted. I will take full advantage of this opportunity and come home mid-June with a much wider knowledge base in IR and Hebrew, and that alone excites me.
